According to the Ancient Evangelical Future blog, an informal Christianity Today survey revealed that 52% of respondents sing "mostly modern worship choruses" while 34% sing mostly hymns.
34% today...24% tomorrow...We live in a more rural New England region and find it more and more difficult to find an evangelical church where solid (both theologically and musically) worship music prevails. We find it painful and depressing to spend an increasing percentage of our worship services "singing" yes lord, yes lord, yes lord yes. yes lord, yes lord, yes lord, yes....etc., etc., ad infinitum. Unfortunately for all of us, hymn singing is dying a slow and painful death. Check out a related article, "Born Again" in the recent issue of The Atlantic.
